Currently there are three prominent portable ice rink technologies available such as a few more insignificant ones. The ambition of this section of the website is to give the reader a first overview on the assets and drawbacks of accordant portable ice rink system respectively ice rink technology.
2. Cooling machine, chiller (plant)
There are several different manufacturers of chillers worldwide. Theirs details of operating mode shall not be described on this site. With regard to temporary ice rink events it is sufficient to know, that there are noisy as well as silent ones available and that these chillers are basically the same than being used for big air conditioners in summer.
Portable ice rink systems
Generally is to say that there are IIHF-conform (International Ice Hockey Federation) dasher boards available for portable ice rinks. But for a temporary event with public skating, figure skating and curling only, optical designed, light-weight dasher boards are to favor. Those light-weight constructions of dasher boards are available in different material such as wood, polyethylene or PC, and various designs. Custom-made products can be made to order at moderate costs.
4. Resurfacer
For a small sized ice rink (300 - 600m²) an ice-resurfacer (“Zamboni”) is not essential but pretty advantageous. For bigger sized ice rinks a suitable resurfacer is strongly recommended.
