For most customers the purchase intention of ice rink facilities means a major investment. Consequently the buying decision should be made on base of merchants due diligence.

1. Ice rink piping system

New ice rink facilities enjoy longevity. In case of decide in purchase a new ice rink system, reassure that the portable ice rink piping system is expandable respectively divisible. Thereby the necessary adjustments of the ice rink extension have to be planned at the header piping side of the according ice rink system.

To be pointed on this context is that the ice rink piping systems are basically fixed on theirs length expansion. Length extension can previously be determined variable before ice rink production. A portable ice rink piping system, which length extension is more than 40 meters, is to advise against because of its cooling liquid flow.

Make sure that the headers of the ice rink system are piped according to the Tichelmann principle. For purchase of a smaller sized ice rink not essential, but for bigger sized ice rink area facilities strongly recommended. The Tichelmann piping principle guarantees a constant flow of the cooling liquid within the ice rink piping system.

The purchase of used ice rink equipment should be made after peak time season, in spring or early summer. In any case, reputable sellers of ice rink facilities are less interested in selling their equipment than in ice rink rentals. A further buying decision should be the lasting availability to buy ice rink spare parts.

2. Chiller (cooling machine):

For short annual operation period, respectively seasonal ice rink operation times, the purchase of a chiller has to be considered well. Because of comparable low rental prices, the amortization time of a purchased chiller is between 15 and 20 years! Desist from buying chillers older than 4-5 years!

Respect that in case of expanding the existing ice rink system, the power capacity of the according chiller has to be adjusted. The capacity of the chiller should come on with the according event location. In case of an outdoor installment of the purchased ice rink system, ambient temperature and wind conditions have to be attended. System-independent, the effective capacity of the chiller should be at least
300 W/sqm (at -10 Celsius, glycol temperature).
