Temporary events in combination with ice rinks became more and more popular over the last few years.

A portable ice rink means an additional attraction for locals and visitors. Such seasonal events mostly came along with and image improvement for organizers and higher sales rates near located retailers.

Unique events can cause a sensation or sweep a spectators record as happened in 2010, at the IIHF-WC opening game on an indoor portable ice rink. The event was hosted in a German soccer stadium, with an attendance of more than 77.000 visitors.

Further unique competitions are the Red Bull Crashed Ice Events, where skaters raced off a 500m Skate path, or so called Skateway.

Last but not least the probably largest (approx 6,000 sqm.), certainly most technical demanding annual portable ice rink installation at Vienna. The annually event is from middle of January until end of March.
